About

The Micah Collaborative is an informal association of Christian believers in the greater Flagstaff area who want to show the local community the love and blessing of God through works of service. The name “Micah Collaborative,” or Micah for short was selected because of the Biblical mandate in Micah 6:8: “He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God (NIV).” Micah primarily functions as a clearinghouse of information pertaining to local service and training opportunities.

The Micah Collaborative Opportunity Brief is typically e-mailed monthly to over 150 local contacts. Micah organizes very few of the service opportunities it disseminates. Other organizers are often local churches, ministries, or individual Christians, but they may also be non-faith-based organizations, local government agencies, or others. Micah encourages community involvement based on the opportunity for working alongside our neighbors to bless and benefit the community. To date, Micah has launched three separate service initiatives. Two of these have been in conjunction with national ministries, Kids Hope USA, and Jobs for Life, while the last initiative, Touch 1 Life, grew out of Micah’s weekly prayer effort.

The Micah Collaborative utilizes the Apostles Creed as its general statement of unifying Christian belief, recognizing that individual Christian participants’ doctrinal views may vary substantially beyond this statement. The Micah Collaborative’s shared goal is consistent with, and summarized by, both Article 5 of The Lausanne Covenant, pertaining to Christian Social Responsibility, and the Concept of Integral Mission developed by the Micah Consultation on Integral Mission held in Oxford, England, during September 2001. These are more specifically stated along with the history of how Micah formed in the Micah Purpose Statement.

Micah’s community service efforts have been greatly boosted by a Bellevue Heights Church Foundation grant secured by Pastor Ken McIntosh and partially shared with Micah to fund a part-time Micah Collaborative Facilitator.  Micah’s leaders include pastors Steve Dohse (Bethel Church), Mike Hjalmarson (Flagstaff First Assembly of God), Ken McIntosh (The Journey), and Chris Croyts (The Refuge), plus Micah Facilitator Kim Vallen, and Coconino County Community Services Department liaison Scott Neuman.

Quarterly meetings are generally held:
